Group fitness classes are on the rise! Are people getting bored of going to the gym by themselves? Or could it be, group activities are more fun and challenging? SYNERGI Weightlifting Club has certainly tapped into this fitness trend, having several group classes for all. Personal Trainer Matt Richardson tells us why group training could be that fitness option that gets you racing to the gym, and pulling some of your friends and family along.
Group training is an excellent way for learning team-building skills
Group fitness courses are not merely about going through the motions of the fitness instructor manual. There is a lot of room for fun and collaboration. Group work-out classes feature activities that stimulate team-building, strengthen decision making skills and can improve critical thinking. These skills might sound like something you need for competitive sports or a job, but imagine acquiring all these transferable skills just having fun with your friends in the gym. Genius right?
Group training drives motivation and accountability
Have you ever wondered why people who work out in pairs or small groups are more committed? People are more likely to feel driven when in the company of other like-minded people. Nobody wants to be the one who lets the group down by being absent from fitness class. Being a part of a fitness class helps you keep focused, feel supported and accountable to the group. A no show always requires an explanation. This keeps you in check and on track.
Group training builds confidence and promotes social interaction
The first time in a gym can be a nightmare. Let’s be honest here – even using a treadmill for the first time can be daunting. Group classes are excellent for building confidence and self-esteem. Not only are you able to work-out with people with similar challenges, but you get that well-needed push along the way.
Group training promotes healthy competition
Group training builds healthy hearty competition. You can be inspired by those around you, which intern drives you to work that little bit harder than you might do on your own. Seeing others hitting PR’s (Personal records) opens your eyes to what is possible and how amazing the human body is, regardless of shape, size or gender. Hitting PR’s in a group is quite special, regardless of what you are lifting, everyone will be proud of you for doing that bit better than the last time. Achieved something cool, go ahead, plaster it across Insta. You earned it and you might inspire someone else to take on the challenge too!
