Three Weight Loss Myths

Nowadays, social media is inundated with “magic weight loss tips” guaranteed to help you speed up your fitness journey. But the truth is, most of it is complete nonsense. Weight loss mistakes are common but be can be easily avoidedPeople tend to jump to excessive training sessions thinking they will lose weight faster, but you are much more likely to develop an injury or make yourself illSo, what are the three main weight loss “tips” to avoid?

The more you sweat, the more pounds you will drop:

Sweating is NOT linked to weight loss. Sweating is purely a bodily function to assist in cooling yourself down when you get too hot. Do not worry if you are not dripping in sweat at the end of your workout – some people sweat a lot, some people hardly sweat at all. Fact. Focus on how you feel!

Don't eat before bed:

The timings in which we eat have a tiny effect on weight loss. The main thing to focus on if you are trying to lose weight, is to be on a calorie deficit. Put simply, eat less calories than you burn. You can work out how many calories you burn daily by using an online calorie counter like this one, https://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/macronutcal.htm. You will probably be surprised to see how much your body burns at rest! Bottom line is, as long as you’re within the deficit – it does not matter when you consume food.

“No pain, No gain”:

Feeling pain when exercising is not linked to losing weight. In fact, if you’re feeling pain beyond a slight burn in your muscles then you should probably stop. Exercising should feel good – don’t torture yourself.

If you want to lose weight, then increasing your day to day activity and moving in a way you enjoy will make a huge difference. If you push yourself to exhaustion you are bound to burn out and give up – the BEST exercise for weight loss is the one you enjoy and will stick to. It is important to follow your trainer’s recommendation but also to listen to your body when it tells you to stop.
